Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

Position description: The Department of Forestry at Michigan State University invites applications for a part-time Partnership Coordinator (Professional Aide) working as part of the Forest Carbon and Climate Program (FCCP).  This position will provide foundational support to FCCP in its role as interim Executive Secretariat of the Partnership for Agricultural Carbon (PAC). PAC (Iniciativa Carbono Agro in Spanish) is a regional partnership to support Latin America and the Caribbean’s (LAC) agriculture sector to access and benefit from carbon market finance mobilized by voluntary and compliance markets. As interim Executive Secretariat for PAC, FCCP provides secretariat services and technical support for day-to-day operations. This is a part-time, temporary position expected to work approximately 20 hours per week for approximately six months, with any extension subject to continued funding and business need.

The successful candidate will work with the FCCP Director to move PAC towards implementation, which will include establishing national leadership teams that will advocate for PAC and promote financing opportunities, supporting policymakers and farmers to strengthen capacities in delivering agriculture voluntary carbon markers (VCMs) through training resources, and raising PAC’s profile through regional outreach initiatives. The Partnership Coordinator will focus on the following:

Develop and Execute a Fundraising Strategy (40%)

  • Work closely with the FCCP Director to identify sources of short-term funding required for the first phase of PAC delivery.
  • Develop a strategy for securing funding that ensures the long-term sustainability and scaling of PAC activities.
  • Deliver the strategy through engagement with prospective donors and leading on producing grant and requests for proposal applications.
  • Build a network of global donors and work with FCCP colleagues to facilitate knowledge exchanges through FCCP’s learning series.

Conduct Outreach Initiatives (30%)

  • Identify and engage with potential delivery partners in coordination with PAC host – the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture and other PAC members.
  • Develop a long-term outreach strategy for PAC, including regional and international conferences and summits.
  • Support preparations for PAC-hosted events and engagements at international conferences and summits (e.g. COPs, Regional Climate Weeks).

Implement PAC Governance Structures (15%)

  • Alongside the FCCP Director, lead an Expression of Interest process for selecting volunteer members of the PAC Expert Group.
  • Support the development of the Expert Group’s terms of reference and key activities.

Meeting Coordination (15%)

  • Develop and present products for monthly meetings of the PAC Advisory Group, including slide decks and key strategic documents.
  • Produce meeting readouts and distribute actions to Advisory Group members, ensuring actions are completed in a timely manner.

Desired Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Working-level Spanish and English are essential.
  • Bachelor’s or Advanced degree focused on climate change, sustainability, forestry, nature-based solutions, or a related field.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Entry-level experience working on climate and sustainability matters, with a particular preference for experience working on carbon markets.
  • Experience in producing written reports for senior boards and/or stakeholders.
  • Academic or professional knowledge of financial instruments.
  • Experience of developing grant applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
