Position Summary

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES – RESPONSIBILITIES

Male Bona Fide worker.

Sweeps, polishes, and wet mops dining rooms, halls, offices, apartments, lobbies, study lounges, classrooms, auditoriums, pressing rooms, treatment rooms, laundry rooms, shower rooms, locker rooms, stairways, outside entrances, and all such areas.

Cleans restrooms and shower room toilets, lavatories, urinals, shower stalls, floors, towel dispensers, all chrome, walls, ceiling, partitions, mirrors, and all other areas in room.

Re-supplies toilet tissue, towels, soap and similar items in shower rooms, locker rooms, restrooms and bathrooms.

Periodically scrubs and refinishes floors with sealers and finishers.

Uses electronic floor machines, battery or electric automatic scrubbers, vacuums, carpet cleaning machines, and window and wall washing machines.

Washes walls, ceilings, windows, furniture, doors, and other related surfaces.

Moves furniture and equipment, cleans, dusts and polishes furniture and equipment.

Sets up and removes chairs, tables, easels and P.A. equipment for conferences, banquets, classes, meetings and workshops.

Replaces light bulbs and reports any observed electric, plumbing or mechanical failures.

Removes, cleans and replaces soiled drapes and shower curtains.

Cleans drinking fountains; cleans aluminum, brass, chrome or enamel; cleans surfaces on doors, trim, stair railing, etc.

Cleans and clears trash from building entrances, sweeps or shovels snow from building entrances, and empties ash urns at building entrances.

Turns in lost and found articles to supervisor.

Requests supplies necessary to perform job.

 

Perform related duties as assigned including, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

May collect, sort and transport soiled and clean linen.

May orient new Building Sanitation Workers and student employees to the assigned facilities.

Properly cleans and stores above equipment and other general maintenance equipment after use.

Always keeps workers’ storage and work areas clean.

Locks and unlocks outside doors of buildings.

Assists students with minor building-related and maintenance problems.

May make minor repairs and do incidental painting.

 

This posting has a Male Bona Fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ) due to the nature of the duties associated with this position. All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.

Minimum Requirements

  • Casual knowledge of cleaning methods, techniques, and equipment is necessary.
  • Ability to relate and communicate with college students is necessary.
  • Lifting of up to 25 pounds is required.

Experience as an team member in housekeeping and bathroom sanitation; dynamic self-starter who demonstrates a work orientation towards “delivering outstanding Spartan experiences”, customer service, problem solving, organization, taking initiative, leadership, working as part of a team, and learning for continuous development; ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.

Sunday-Wednesday 6:30am-3:00pm, Thursday-Friday-Off, Saturday 6:30am-3:00pm
