Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This a temporary or on-call position. Provides clerical support. Responsibilities may include secretarial, receptionist, bookkeeping, information processing or related clerical tasks. Temps On-Campus: includes College of Human Medicine, the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Detroit Medical Center, and the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Macomb University CenterTerm. On campus temps can work six (6) months then terminate for three (3) months or switch to an oncall. Off campus temps can continuously work nine(9) month appointment with a one (1) week break in between. On-Call allowed to work up to 40 hours/week for three (3) months then must be moved down to 19 hours/week and cannot work more than 520 hours in any six (6) month period.

Unit Position Summary

The Michigan State University (MSU) Center for Regional Food Systems (CRFS) within the Department of Community Sustainability is seeking a Temporary hourly Clerical Aide to support logistics and program coordination at the Center for Regional Food Systems. This is an end-dated temporary position through January 2025. Expected 25-29 hours per week.

This skilled and independent professional will provide clerical support, with duties including but not limited to: supporting event logistics and planning; performing calendar and appointment management; managing and organizing information flow; composing and preparing correspondence; assisting with complex and detailed travel plans, itineraries, and agendas including arranging travel, creating travel requests, and processing expense reports; and compiling documents for travel-related meetings. The Aide may also be asked to take meeting minutes; draft, and/or proof-read, and edit memos; manage file organization; and other duties as assigned.  

The successful candidate will be able to prioritize conflicting assignments, handle matters expeditiously, work proactively, and follow-through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures.  They will be expected to represent CRFS in a professional manner in all forms of engagement and communication and help to foster, facilitate, and maintain the CRFS culture of anti-racism, trust, support, and accountability. 

Hourly rate is $20-$25/hour, commensurate with experience. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical school or related field. 
  • One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a professional office setting, performing secretarial and administrative tasks.  
  • Experience with event planning and logistics. 
  • Able to thrive working in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Able to observe regular office hours as scheduled with the supervisor, promptly responding to all forms of communication including email, and engaging in the highest forms of professionalism in communication. 
  • High degree of, knowledge of, and comfort and flexibility with using technology to complete job requirements, including Microsoft Office suite; online search, file-sharing, and collaboration platforms; mail merge, spreadsheets, scheduling, publishing, and/or presentation software; or an equivalent experience. 
  • Proven ability to self-direct and balance multiple streams of work and deliverables simultaneously, and to easily shift between working independently and collaboratively. 
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communications skills and experience using a broad range of communication tactics. 
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, a culture of anti-racism and inclusivity.   
  • Available and willing to occasionally travel by car throughout the state and by plane within the U.S.
