Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.

Unit Position Summary

The Cannabis Legalization in Michigan (CALM) research team is hiring a Technical Aide to assist with recruitment and data collection for our CALM-cardiovascular disease (CVD) study. CALM-CVD is a prospective study investigating the cardiovascular health effects of cannabis use. As a member of the research team, the Technical Aide will report directly to the Principal Investigator. The person will have phlebotomy training and experience and should maintain excellent interpersonal skills with all participants of our study.

The Technical Aide will be responsible for:

  • Identify eligible patients with assistance from clinical staff
  • Incorporate the study protocol into the clinical flow without disrupting clinical care
  • Introduce the study to patients and consent participants into the study
  • Driving/traveling throughout the Greater Lansing Area to conduct participant interviews and collect data
  • Collect survey data using Qualtrics
  • Collect, process, and transport biospecimens (urine and blood)
  • Update multiple database systems
  • Enter data into the study database system

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related science fields; The position requires phlebotomy licensing or certification and a valid driver license in the state of Michigan.

Phlebotomy experience preferred. Experience working with patients. Experience with medical terminology. Experience with medical research. Experience with Qualtrics.
